Each shooter earns Match Points for each match they participate in.  Match Points will be totaled for each stage based on your Division finish(see “Match Points” below), each shooter is only shooting against the other Point Series Shooters for Score in their Division.

Shooter Classification Selection: Each Shooter is required to select a  Classification Percentage when registering.  The 4 Classification Percentages to select from are 100%, 89%, 78% and 67%.  This part of the registration process which allows each shooter to review who the other shooters are, research how you finished in previous matches in the previous season and select your Shooter Classification Percentage based on your review.  Because this step is a crucial part of the series, we are not requiring shooters to make their final Classification Percentage selection until check-in of their first match at Ontelaunee in 2020, however shooters not filling out and handing in their form at check-in of your first match will be assigned the selection you made during online registration for the 2020 Point Series.   Registered Point Series shooters who miss the first 2 matches of the season will also be locked into the classification selected during their online registration.

Remember this is an important step in your registration process because at the end of the season your 4 best match finishes will be added together and then averaged against the field of shooters to verify your Classification Percentage, this is not your Point Series Score, this is your match finish percentage for the season.  If you shoot above your selected Shooter Classification Percentage for the season you will be ineligible for the Prize Money.  So, take the time to review and select your Classification Percentage correctly by the deadline.

Shooters; Point Series Score:  Competitors will build to their score each match for the Point Series based on match points earned through stage points at each of the (5) 3-Gun matches held at Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club during the 2020 3-Gun Season.

Your total Point Series Score will be a total of Stage Points Earned for your best 4 out of 5 MATCH FINISHES.  We are using 4 Match Finishes because, this allows everyone a mulligan if they shoot all 5 matches and or this allows you to miss a match without being heavily penalized.  As noted, Shooters are not required to attend all 5 matches, however missing more than one match will cut deeply in to your Point Series total score.

Match Points: Match Points are earned through stage points as follows at each match.

  • Match Points:  The May, June, July & August monthly matches will be worth 762 match points each and the State Championship Match in September is worth 1,016 points.
  • Stage Point Grades: Each stage in a match will be graded by the number of target presentations within the individual stage.
    • Each Target under 90 yards on a stage is counted as 1 target
    • Each Target over 90 yards on a stage is counted as 2 targets
    • The total number of target counts will be divided into the match points and appropriated to each stage.
      • example: The May Match has a total of 180 targets on all the stages and 12 of them are over 90 yards.  This becomes 192 target counts ( 180 targets + 12 double counts for long range over 90 yards).
      • Match total Points Worth 762 divided by 192 target counts = 3.968 points each.
      • So each target under 90 yards is worth 3.968 points and each target 90 yards or more is worth 7.936 points.
      • Stages will be adjusted to whole points and all stages added together will add up to 762 points for each of the 4 monthly matches and 1,016 points for the State Championship match.
    • Each shooter will earn stage points based on the percentage you finish, for each stage in your division for the match.
      • example: The stage is worth 126 points, the Division’s stage  winner’s total time with penalties is 64.22 and your total time for the same stage is 87.65, your stage points are calculated as follows; 64.22/87.65= 0.7326, your time is 73.26% of the stage winner’s time and 73.26% of 126 possible points is 92.3076 points.
You would earn 92.3076 Stage Points to your Match Point Score for this specific stage of the match.
      • Points will be scored to 4 decimal places to purposely avoid a tie for the Point Series.
    • The Shooters Stage Point Scores for the match will be combined together for your total match points, then each Match’s Score is added to your Point Series Score Card.
    • A Match DQ will result in Zero match points for that match.
  • Point Series shooters are only shooting against same division Point Series Shooters.
  • All Point Series Shooters Arriving late to a match and after their squad has started the stage briefing will be allowed to join the match, however you will receive a Zero score for each stage you are not their for the full stage briefing.
  • All Point Series Shooters opting to leave a match earlier, prior to finishing a match, will retain points earned for stages completed and will receive DNF’s for non finished stages and a Zero for that stages Point Series Score.

Point Series Tie Breakers: In the event that 2 or more shooters are tied in points at the end of the season.  Tie breakers will be determined by each shooters match finish.  Then the number of stage finish positions.
